How many levels can I play?

As many as you like. Every language is a ladder, and clearing a level opens the next one immediately.

Do I need an account?

Not to play. Signing in is what carries your levels and streaks onto a new phone, and what puts you on the ladder and in the chat rooms.

Is it free?

Yes. Hints are paid for with a short ad, and nothing else is behind a wall.
